2001-02

President Wally Cann was in the Chair for his second term as president, the first being 1995-96.  The District Governor was Syd Lewis and our Assistant District Governor was Ken Jones.

The club inducted 6 new members including our first lady member Gail Law and coincidently the first husband and wife team with her husband John also inducted on the same night.  This left the club with 24 members at the end of the year.

The major project for the year was Bowls Day and associated raffle that saw the club donate more than $5,100 to the Australian Kidney Foundation.

We again participated in our regular events of football finals gates for the Coreen & District Football League, the race gates for the Corowa Race Club, cooking the BBQ at the Karinya House Fete and the Pride of Workmanship Dinner.  Other events that we participated in Bike Ride to Conference Dinner, Ride for Research Dollars Lunch, Youth Exchange, Year 10 High School Mock Interviews, Christmas Cakes and Puddings.

We hosted Rutherglen High in the Ian Murphy Memorial Debate and unfortunately we saw a win to Rutherglen High.

Peter Richardson, Tina Williams and Lisa Kuschert of Corowa High were offered places in the Siemens Science Summer School Program.  Sarah Pearce whilst unsuccessful in gain a place in the National Youth Science Forum was successful in gaining a place in the Engineering Careers School sponsored by Rotary and the University of New South Wales and was also invited to apply for a place in a program entitled Careers on a Plate run by the National Youth Science Forum.

Once again we gave generously, as our funds would allow, to many causes and this included the school bursaries of $600 dollars, Rotary Foundation, $100 per member as well as donations to ROMAC, RAWCS, ARHRF, and the Corowa Rowing Club.

During the year the club had a 50% attendance at the District Conference in Bright.

On the international scene we said good-bye to our exchange student from Brazil, Rafael Possobon in January.  We have selected Jessica Glabbitz as our new outbound exchange student who will be leaving us for Germany in January 2003.
