2015-16

John Law became President, our International President was K.R. (Ravi) Ravindran, District Governor was Richard Luke and Assistant District Governor was again Steve McKewen.

This year was even bigger than 2014-15, with the Club adding the Federation Dinner and Tim Fischer Oration as well as re-booting the Federation Parade to the Federation Festival weekend.  The club also took on the co-ordination of the community funding of the New Year’s Eve Fireworks

The monthly markets in Bangerang Park, continue to grow and improve, although we do seem to have trouble attracting farmers markets stalls on a regular basis.  Gate takings however have been good allowing for us to fund the Federation Parade and fireworks on the Saturday of the Australia Day weekend.

In December we opened the Shade Sails at Bangerang Park, this has cost the club  a little under $18,000 and was a gift to the community, but also there to help with providing more shade at our markets.

The New Year’s Eve Fireworks fundraising generated over $20,000, which resulted in a 9:30 display for children and a larger show at midnight.  Many thanks must go to the major sponsors Ricky D’s Pizza, (who has committed $5,000 for 3 years), Corowa RSL Club and Rivalea for sponsoring the children’s fireworks.  All the feedback was positive and we are hoping to make it bigger and better next year.

The BnS Ball was one again our major fundraiser, while numbers were down a little on last year it was still a very successful event.

We started the year with 27 members, however we lost Ian Carrington in July, Margaret Horlock in December due to relocating with her partner and Harry Overend who moved to Newcastle to attend university.  In July we gained Ray Terrill who transferred to us from Wodonga West and in August we inducted Janet & Chris McLean.  In January we also inducted Norman O’Flaherty who transferred to us from Moriarty in SA.  In June however we lost 3 members, Oliver Raschke who had been on leave of absence because of work commitments and Janet and Chris Mclean due to health and a desire to travel while they were still well enough.  This meant we finished the year at 25.

By the end of the year the Club also adopted it first Strategic Plan, which identified where the Club is now, where it wants to be and how it will get there.  One thing came out of the plan is the need for the Club to take on a long term project which it will commit significant amounts of its fund over many years, for the benefit of Corowa.


In June we recognized Honorary Members Janet & Robert Dickins with Paul Harris Fellows for their many years of community service

The club also participated in its usual programs of:

  • ·      catering for the military vehicles,
  • ·      sponsoring and catering for the Carols by Candlelight
  • ·      race gates,
  • ·      organising the Giving Tree at Corowa Supa IGA, which saw Christmas Hampers given away to needy families in Corowa,
  • ·      Bowel Scan,
  • ·      Ride to Conference and the
  • ·      Easter Egg Hunt,
  • ·      Clean-up the Highways

One of the more unusual sponsorships, we undertook during the year, was when we were approach to host a group of migrant women, some refugees, mostly from Africa, who wished to visit Corowa for a weekend in September.  After going to the community to get host families for the weekend our visitors arrived.  Everyone had a great weekend and a lot was learned about other cultures. 


The weekend proved a great success, so much so that they returned in May to speak to the High School about some of their experiences.

The club also supported Shelterbox and Aqua Box and again contributed Rotary Foundation, via the contributions made each week by members to Every Rotarian Every Year. Total donations for the year were a record $50,001
